I’m pleased to say that my short-story entry in this year’s The Archdruid Report Space Bats (aka After Oil 4: The Future’s Distant Shores) challenge is complete! The story is available in two formats, depending on your viewing preferences:
Previous Titles in the series are:
- After Oil: SF Visions Of A Post-Petroleum World
- After Oil 2: The Years of Crisis
- After Oil 3: The Years of Rebirth (Volume 3)
- After Oil 4: The Future’s Distant Shores — Now Available!
(unfortunately, Cycle didn’t make the cut)
Background on Cycle:
The idea behind Cycle is that Nature (for “good” or “bad”) is built to exploit niches. If you don’t take it, someone else will, whether you’re a virus, a lion, or a human. Take the exploitation of niches, ingest crack, and you arrive at our current state of Human affairs. Cycle is an attempt to look at the things that would have to change to keep exploitation in check because otherwise Life will always run to the edge of the Petri dish.
